Your Car is a Reflection of Your Dreams, Stories, and Memories

About Me

A.D. Cook Pic by James WalkenshawI’m A.D., a car guy, and the featured artist on this website. Over the years, I’ve photographed thousands of unique cars and created miles of automotive and motorcycle artworks, many of which have been featured in magazines, galleries, and museums throughout the United States.

But enough about me. Click here for more if you like.

This page is about you, your dream car, the stories you share, and the timeless memories.

The Art of Transportation

Cars and motorcycles are an incredibly significant part of my world. Ever since I was a young child, I’ve harbored a deep fascination for anything that has wheels, gleaming chrome, and the thrill of the open road before me.

The engineering and design behind these magnificent machines captivates me, as does the freedom they represent, offering endless opportunities for adventure and exploration. The roar of the engine, the smell of gasoline, and the feel of the steering wheel in my hands ignite a passion that is hard to put into words. So I put it in my art.

The allure of cars goes beyond mere transportation; it symbolizes independence and the joy of life’s journeys. And sometimes it reminds us of a time when we were young, and the cars were magnificent.

Beyond Picture Perfect

If you’d like to explore possibilities beyond a photoshoot, let’s talk about creating something bespoke and uniquely original. My creative passion lies in creating automotive-inspired art and motorcycle portraits on canvas and metal.

As a realist painter, I begin all my artworks with a photo shoot. From there, anything is possible.

For the perfect painting, consider commissioning an original artwork to complement your unique tastes.

I regularly photograph miles of cars for the creation of my art, and for the benefit of my fellow passionate automotive Blog readers (Thank you all).

Some cars inspire my art, while others are amazing to share editorially. If our paths have crossed at any given time, there’s a chance your favorite car or truck might be posted on this site. Click here to see the Car Show Timeline with thousands of great pics.

Automotive Photo Shoot FAQ

Automotive photography requires careful planning of lighting, location, and camera settings to highlight a vehicle’s design. Below are answers to the most frequently asked questions regarding automotive photo shoots.
How long does the photoshoot take?

Most automotive photoshoots take 1 to 2 hours, depending on location and variables.

More complex projects, such as those involving multiple locations or motion shots, can extend to a half or full day.

Golden Hour (the hour after sunrise or before sunset) is ideal for soft, flattering light and minimal glare. Overcast days also work well for clean, even highlights and reduced reflections.

The car must be spotless. Ensure it is washed and detailed, paying special attention to wheels and windows. Bring a microfiber cloth and quick detailer for “impromptu” cleaning between shots.

I highly recommend that the car be free of any objects in the interior and the trunk.

For the safety of the client and the photographer, I do not provide any services that involve rolling photo shoots (i.e., the photographer taking a photo in one car while both cars are moving).

Editing is where the final magic happens. Post-processing involves:

  • Removing unwanted distractions (power lines, blemishes, scratches) from the final shot.
  • Enhancing colors, contrast, and clarity to make the image “pop”.
  • Color grading to set a specific mood or cinematic feel.

You can use the pics however you like, except for commercial use. You are welcome to share them online or with friends, or even in a magazine story (with photo credit).

The standard turnaround time for edited digital images is typically 72 hours to 3 business days. Some specialized services may take up to a week for extensive retouching.

Yes. Professional imagery builds buyer trust, especially for online auctions like Bring a Trailer or Carsales, and can often lead to faster sales and higher offers.

Yes, I create original artworks up to about four feet by eight feet as a single canvas, and larger for dyptics.

Choosing a location depends on the vehicle’s style and the desired mood. In 2026, the best automotive photography spots range from rugged natural trails to modern urban environments.
