Las Vegas Brewing News July 2024

Double The Fun

If you thought it was too hot in July for beer events, think again. Thanks to the modern technology of air conditioning there are several slated for this month, all taking place indoors.

Two Beer Festivals on July 20

Two beer festivals are scheduled for Saturday, July 20. However, they are timed in such a way that if one wanted to, and can afford two ride share rides, you could attend both.

First up is the inaugural Las Vegas Indoor Summer Beer Festival at the Ahern Hotel (at 300 W Sahara Ave just west of the Strip). It will offer unlimited sampling of beers from several of our local breweries including Able Baker, Beer Zombies, Big Dog’s, CraftHaus, Nevada Brew Works, North 5th and Tenaya Creek. Tickets for General Admission from 1 to 6 p.m. are $39; and VIP, which also includes early admission at noon and all-you-can-eat food from Ahern Hotel’s Joel’s Chophouse and Ottimo Gourmet Kitchen & Pizzeria, are $74.

The VIP is an excellent value with Short Rib Grilled Cheese, Truffled Mushroom Arancini, Ahi Tuna Crudo and Little Gem Spanish Caesar from Joel’s Chophouse; and Detroit-style Pizza by the Slice, BBQ Pork Belly, Spicy Crab Nero with squid ink lumache pasta and Fried Mac-n-Cheese Bites from Ottimo. With an incredible lineup like that and the high quality of Ahern Hotel Executive Chef Joel Ott’s cuisine, this fest may be worth attending for the food alone.

Later in the day and a few miles away is the 7th annual Silver State Summer Brewfest at the Tuscany Suites & Casino (at 255 E Flamingo Rd just east of Koval) from 4-8 p.m. It will feature all-you-can-drink beer from nearly all Southern Nevada breweries.

Tickets are $50 for general admission entry at 4 p.m. and $55 for early entry at 3 p.m. To purchase tickets, click here.

More Beer Events in July

Beer Zombies Happy Hour

Beer Zombies Brewing will host two events this month. First up on July 18 is a concert series featuring the tour kickoff of Lie For Fun and supporting bands Arrlo, Split Persona and Haushanka. A pre-concert happy hour runs from 3-6 p.m. featuring $5 draft pours of Beer Zombies Brewing and Tenaya Creek beers. The bands will perform from 7-11 p.m. and tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. To purchase tickets, click here.

Who says you can only drink stouts during the colder months? On July 26-27 Beer Zombies Brewing will bring The All Out Stout Bout “Summer Edition” from open to close both days. The stout takeover will feature Beer Zombies and Tenaya Creek brews plus stouts from guest breweries Everywhere, Mortalis, Solaris, Weathered Souls and more. Stouts will be available on draft with a printout sheet giving details of each beer. At the end of the tasting guests will vote for their favorite by placing their ballot in the corresponding brewery’s container with the Stout Bout Champion being crowned on Sunday. There will also be new merch drops, food trucks and entertainment.

Lovelady Brewing also has two events this month. At the Water St. brewery on July 19 at 6:30 p.m. will be the Beer Olympics featuring Nerf Archery, Nerf Shooting, Nerf Basketball, Mini Golf and Table Tennis. There’s no charge and you don’t need to sign up, and of course there will be plenty of Lovelady beer flowing from the taps. Minors are allowed to participate but must be accompanied by an adult 21+.

On July 27, both Lovelady locations (Water St. and Green Valley Pkwy) will host Christmas in July, with unique one-off beers, competitions and prizes.

The Silver Stamp, renowned for offering beers you won’t find anywhere else in town or oftentimes in the whole state or country, for the second year in a row will celebrate Smokebeer Preservation Day on July 23.

Expect a plethora of rauchbiers on draft and in package, a smoky wooden cask tapping at 5 p.m., raffle prizes and a food element (TBD). The beer menu will mainly feature the historic smoked beer from the Schlenkerla Brewery in Bamberg, Germany, which has been operating since 1405 and celebrates Smokebeer Preservation Day every year on July 23 to mark the day in 1635 when the first smoke-free malt drying machine was patented.

What's Pouring in July

Big Dog’s Brewing Director of Brewing Operations Dave Pascual and his brew team have two releases for July, with fun names and label graphics. Tongue Cuddler is a crushable West Coast Hazy IPA brewed with 2-row, dextrin, oats and rye and hopped with Vic Secret and Nectaron Southern Hemisphere hops, which give it tropical notes of passionfruit, peach, grapefruit, pineapple and pine. While it’s big in flavor and aroma, it’s small in ABV at only 5%, which makes it a fantastic brew for the warmer months ahead.

Doggo Kart is a 5.2% fruited classic blonde ale infused with 168 pounds of passionfruit and 126 pounds of pineapple puree. The base beer has grain characters of bread and malt which give way to the tropical and floral notes of the fruit.

Nevada Brew Works Head Brewer Tom Harwood will have a 6% dry and crisp India Pale Lager hopped with Galaxy, Idaho 7 and Zappa; and Go Ugly Early, a 7.4% Hazy IPA brewed with passionfruit and mango puree hopped with Citra, Mosaic and Azacca.

Able Baker will release Duck Duck Joose, an 8% Hazy Double IPA; and Liliko’i Orange ‘ONO! ‘ONO!—a 5.2% fruited sour with liliko’i (passionfruit) and blood orange.

Richard Lovelady at Lovelady Brewing is brewing Holy Hand Grenade, an 8% English-Style Barleywine; Southwest Blues, a 5.2% Southwest Pilsner made with blue corn, agave, barley and Multihead hops; and Love Pickle, a 5% Golden Kettle Sour with dill pickle brine.

Beer Zombies Brewing Owner Chris Jacobs tells me they are rolling out two collaboration beers this month: West Coast Pils of Horrors, a collab with Arrow Lodge Brewing, which will be a 5% super light-bodied crisp pilsner dry hopped with Mosaic and Cryo Pop hops; and Dan Opener, a collab with 8 Bit Brewing that is an 8% sour IPA fruited with black cherry and raspberry.
