New Brewery Cin Cin and LV Brewing Taproom Now Open
In case you hadn’t heard, Cin Cin Brewhouse & Seafood Bar is now open in the Downtown Arts District at 914 S Main in the former space of Neon Desert (which relocated earlier this year to the Henderson Booze District). Also newly opened is the Las Vegas Brewing taproom in the Arts District at 1226 S Third. For a complete report on Cin Cin and the beers brewed by Brewmaster Cisco Talley, click here to read my article in Vegas Prime magazine, and for my reporting on the new Las Vegas Brewing taproom click here.
HUDL and BJ’s Collaboration Beer
BJ’s Brewhouse is brewing to bridge the gap between Vegas and the Reno craft brewery scene. A collaboration brew with BJ’s Reno Head Brewer Joe Baldwin; HUDL Head Brewer Joe Cuozzo, Assistant Brewer Cameron Meredith and Cellarman Megan Hanley; and Amoretti Brewmaster & Brand Ambassador Nic Bortolin took place at HUDL on May 31 and marks the first ever BJ’s collab with a Las Vegas brewery. The brew, named Peachcycle, is a Summer Ale mimicking a cobbler with brown sugar and summer ingredients of peach and apricot provided by Amoretti Craft Puree.
The collaboration came about after Joe Baldwin stopped in at HUDL while in town attending the Craft Brewers Conference in April. Baldwin said, “After meeting Joe (Cuozzo) and trying his beers we came up with the idea to do a collaboration beer that would help bridge the divide in Nevada between Reno and Las Vegas, a six-and-a-half-hour drive, coming together to make a crushable fruity beer for the summer like a peach cobbler. We both have experience making peach beers so now we’ll have a pretty tasty summer beer at the end of June.” Cuozzo added, “We wanted to have fun and make our locals market happy. With BJ’s five (Southern Nevada) locations where everybody goes, we get to introduce HUDL to more neighborhoods, and will also introduce our beer to Reno, with a goal to enter the Reno market.”
Peachcycle will be available at all Nevada BJ’s locations and at HUDL by the end of June. Also noteworthy is that all BJ’s beers sent to Southern Nevada BJ’s Brewhouses are now brewed at the Reno brewery.
What’s Pouring in June
BJ’s, in addition to the aforementioned collaboration brew with HUDL, is launching a seasonal brew that also happens to be a collaboration brew. It’s a recipe concocted by BJ’s Senior VP of Brewing Operations Alex Puchner, BJ’s R&D Director Aaron Stueck and Lagunitas Brewmaster Jeremy Marshall and dubbed Cool Tricks IPL. It’s a hoppy lager hopped with ELANI, a new hop found in the wilderness and brought to production by YAKIMA Quality Hops and grown by Leo Gassling & Sons Farms. Reno BJ’s Head Brewer Joe Baldwin tells me it has a variety of tropical fruit notes, some citrus and even notes of bubble gum, and the hops are accentuated by an addition of a newer product from Abstrax called Brew Gas, botanically derived cannabis terpenes to really bring out the dankness of the brew. Note that there is no THC or CBD, just the terpenes that contribute heavily to aroma and flavor.
Beer Zombies owner Chris Jacobs informs me they’ll have two special releases this month. Beer Zombies Heroic Dose is a 10.5% ABV Triple Hazy IPA with lactose and hopped with Mosaic, Citra and Cryo Pop. DeadStock Anatomies is an 8.85% ABV Hazy Double IPA brewed with soursop (fruit of Annona muricata, a broadleaf, flowering, evergreen tree native to the tropical regions of the Americas and the Caribbean). The name refers to the label artwork, which is a collaboration with local artist DeadStock Anatomies. Both will be released the first week in June.
CraftHaus Brewery Head Brewer Cameron Fisher will have a new Hazy IPA being released near the beginning of June, Tropical Forrest. The name references the last name of owners Dave and Wyndee Forrest, and it was brewed with Sabro, Azacca and HBC 586 hops. It will be draft only at the CraftHaus taproom in the Downtown Arts District and the brewery in the Henderson Booze District. Later in June and just in time to help us refresh from the summer heat they’ll have the return of Sumo Stomp Japanese Rice Lager with tangerine, available in cans and draft around the valley. Released last month, but likely still pouring, is Sugoi! Strawberry Mochi Milkshake IPA with a fun label inspired by the Harajuku district of Tokyo and Kawaii art style. It’s made with puffed rice, lactose and pure strawberry puree and hopped with Mosaic, Hull Melon and Motueka hops that will make you exclaim Sugoi! (a Japanese exclamation meaning oh my, wow or wonderful) at your first sip.
Nevada Brew Works Lead Brewer Tom Harwood has brewed Auckland NZ Hazy IPA, a 7.1% New Zealand-style hazy IPA with Galaxy, Wai-iti and Nelson Sauvin hops that is tropical and aromatic, with a slightly earthy backbone. He also has Tangerine Shandy, a 5.6% light and crushable brew made with real tangerine puree that should be perfect for the summer patio season. Coming later this month will be a 5.2% Schwarzbier dark lager and a 6.5% Saison.
