What is Silly Season?
“Silly Season” is an informal term in motorsports journalism for the period late in or after a racing season when rumors and speculation about driver, team, and sponsor changes for the next year run rampant. It is a time of significant movement, often involving major shake-ups and surprising announcements in series like NASCAR and IndyCar.
My Connection to Racing
Regular readers of my posts know of my passion for cars and most anything fast. Over the years I paint several automotive artworks.
Since the inception of the Wings and Wheels Foundation aka TeamWWF, I have created and managed their website and collateral design. Click for my TeamWWF profile page.
Key Aspects of Racing Silly Season
- Rumors and Speculation: Because there is a lack of actual on-track action, journalists and fans focus on potential changes, leading to a host of unverified or wild rumors.
- Driver Movement: Key news often revolves around drivers leaving their current teams, signing new contracts, or stepping away from full-time competition.
- Team and Sponsor Deals: The period also includes announcements of new sponsorships, alliances, or team adjustments to car counts for the upcoming season.
- Timing: Silly season typically kicks into high gear toward the end of the current season and continues through the off-season, settling down as the new season approaches. The Performance Racing Industry (PRI) show in December is a common venue for official announcements.
- Significance: While many stories should be taken with a “grain of salt,” this is when foundational changes are made that can affect team dynamics and competitive landscapes for the next year.
Celebrating TeamWWF Drivers
Silly Season is also an opportunity to take pause and congratulate our 2025 Ambassador Drivers. While they, too, are in a moment of transition, we anticipate a few of our team drivers from 2025 who will continue on our roster for the 2026 season.
Ambassadors are selected to work closely with the foundation, not only to promote and raise funds, but also to support the foundation’s mission and brand.
TeamWWF prides itself on selecting the best representatives, not only on the track but also off the track. They are a direct reflection of our mission. The team carefully selects our ambassadors through a rigorous process that includes both an application and an interview. These Ambassadors are chosen not only for their ability to represent the foundation and its mission but also for their strong moral values and outstanding personalities. They truly embody our principles, serving as the proof in the pudding of our organization’s impact and values.
Our Ambassadors are the core of our foundation. Once selected, TeamWWF begins connecting the Ambassadors with the foundation to collaborate on marketing and brand-building, with assistance from our partners.
