National Corvette Museum LogoI’m excited to share that the National Corvette Museum has invited me, Las Vegas Artist A.D. Cook, to create a unique Corvette artwork for inclusion in the LUSTER: Realism And Hyperrealism In Contemporary Automobile and Motorcycle Paintings exposition scheduled to exhibit from March 15th through January 5th, 2025, in celebration of Corvette’s 70th Anniversary and the museum’s 30th Anniversary!

National Corvette Museum - Generations of Corvette up to 2011As a lifelong Corvette enthusiast, I’m honored and excited to create an original epic artwork celebrating America’s Sports Car for a special unveiling in honor of Corvette’s exciting heritage and ongoing legacy.

For this special honor, I’ve created two four-foot by five-foot paintings designed to display as a diptych. Both images complement one another when hung side-by-side or displayed separately. One canvas showcases a Polo White 1953/1954 C1 to commemorate Corvette’s first year, with the second canvas depicting a 2023 C8 Stingray Z06 in Arctic White.

The National Corvette Museum will prominently display the artworks on a special wall within the Museum’s Gallery through January 5, 2025 as the centerpiece of the LUSTER Exhibition.

Your MOMENTum

MOMENTUM Corvette paintings by A.D. Cook, 2024

MOMENTUM features two epic paintings with CREATION and EVOLUTION designed to hang together but can also be displayed separately. Each tells the story of Corvette’s 70 years as America’s Sports Car and celebrates the Corvette Museum’s 30th Anniversary.

These original artworks are now available for purchase directly from the artist.

Add these original paintings to your collection: $100,000* for the pair, shipped to your US destination in early 2025 after their complete exhibit time at the National Corvette Museum. Contact me to add MOMENTUM to your collection.

All Set…

Lately, I’ve been focussing on the artwork’s preparation stage. Automotive paintings are relatively technical, so as the saying goes, “Preparation is everything.”

To enhance my already excellent canvases, I pulled out my trusty Anest-Iwata LPH-100 Spray gun and applied a few nice coats of white Com-Art Airbrush Colour to create a nice, even surface that looks more like paper now than canvas.

Usually, I would apply a tinted color, but since both of the cars are white, although different whites (but we’ll get to that later), starting with a clean white surface made sense.

They Hear All, See All, But Say Nothing…

I’ve been asked a lot lately, “Hey, A.D., what’s up with the Corvette art?

I guess I’ve been slow in posting updates lately, but the paintings are moving along nicely. I’m enjoying my time in the studio, creating what I know will be an epic work celebrating America’s Sports Car for Corvette’s 70th-year anniversary as part of the LUSTER Exhibition!

It’s not a project that I take lightly because I’ve been a Corvette guy since I was a kid, and I drove one as my daily driver during my Hollywood Video years.

Inspired Moments of Corvette Clarity

As my regular readers know, I had the pleasure of photographing two amazing Corvettes at Southern Highlands Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nevada.

That day, I took about two-hundred-and-fifty (+-) fantastic photos. Since then, I have been sorting through and enjoying them as a tremendous diversion and escape as I quietly study each car’s elegant lines in preparation of forthcoming paintings.

The fifty-three Corvette and its seventy-year evolution are similar yet excitingly different. The deeper I look, the more I see the bloodline. That, for me, is paramount in celebrating Corvette through the LUSTER Exhibition.

National Corvette Day

Reflecting on today’s relevance in celebration of Corvette’s 70th Birthday!

Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing one of the very first Corvettes ever made alongside the most current Corvette Z06 with every option available.

The differences are amazing, but the bloodline is obvious. That is part of what I hope comes through in my forthcoming paintings. It’s all momentum from here.

Canvas Prep – Sessions 11, 12 and Beyond

Fresh eyes have revealed that I wasn’t quite finished with my gesso prep with these canvases. They were close, though — really close. I convinced myself that some touch-ups would make it all right, and now they are ready to paint.

Still going through my great reference pics from last week.

Canvas Prep – Sessions 9 & 10

After a couple of final gesso application sessions and some time hand-sanding both canvases, I am now starting to love my slate-smooth surface. My canvases are now ready for the next step. But first, I’ll need to review those awesome pics I shot a couple of days ago.

Stay tuned for updates.

Corvette Dreams in Las Vegas

I could hardly imagine a better way to start the day.

This morning my fabulous Corvette owners and I created an epic morning by celebrating one of America’s first Corvettes alongside the most Current C8 Z06 for an epic photo shoot on a private golf course. Special thanks to Southern Highlands Golf Club.

Canvas Prep – Session 8

Today’s prep session was about removing gesso. An essential step in my canvas prep process, gesso application provides a smooth and durable surface for painting but the small squeegees can leave textural ridges. It’s important to ensure that any excess gesso is sanded down in order to achieve the desired level of non-texture in my canvas. A light scuffing with course sandpaper, followed by a finer sandpaper, to remove any excess gesso ensures a flawless painting surface.

The canvases are now taking on a nice even finish, but there are a couple more sessions to go before I’m ready to paint.

Canvas Prep – Sessions 6 & 7

Another early morning with a sixth session of gesso followed by a seventh in the afternoon. Both canvases are starting to look nice and smooth, but my discerning eye sees a wee canvas texture as I scan the surface. Some gentle scuffing and a couple of light sessions to go still, but overall, I am getting excited about these so far.

Canvas Prep – Sessions 4 & 5

This morning started with a fourth session of gesso and a fifth session by mid-day.

Both canvases are starting to look smoother, but a bit of canvas texture is still coming through, which is to be expected at this point. With some gentle scuffing and a few more light gesso sessions, these canvases will be ready for a nice base coat of color before starting my paintings.

Canvas Prep – Sessions 2 & 3

Few will ever realize the work that goes into a painting before the painting even begins. I like to paint on as smooth a surface as possible, but I also love canvas.

Through the application of several light layers, my gesso process removes any canvas texture and creates the perfect slate-smooth surface for my work.

Location. Check. Canvas. Gesso. Check.

It’s happening! I visited my collector with the brand-new beast this afternoon and checked out the location for our upcoming shoot. Next week the two Corvettes, a stunning ’53/’54 and an ultra-decked white 70th Anniversary Corvette C8 Z06, will come together for some great shots overlooking Las Vegas to inspire my art.

Also, I picked up my two canvases and a gallon of gesso today and started my gesso process to create a slate-smooth surface. This evening was the first of many sessions prepping the canvas for paint.
